Why can't you see this my way?!

It is funny how God puts things together. In the last week the topic of personality has come up on so many occasions, and then it was the topic of our message on Sunday. I think God must be trying to tell me something.  A friend of mine posted a personality test on Facebook, and I am a sucker for those kinds of things, so I jumped right in and took it. It was actually a very good one and it was remarkably accurate. (The link is here if you are interested) Once I took it, I had my husband take it and we had fun comparing and contrasting our results- a lot more contrast.
Just as God made us each with unique talents, gifts, and abilities, he also created us with unique personalities. Our personalties shape the way we view the world, and the way we interact with others. There are so many times when my husband and I see things very differently. Although we are facing the same problem or situation, our views on what it is and how it needs to be handled are completely opposite. Why did God create us this way? Why don't we all see things the same?
Sometimes I feel defective, like maybe God messed up on that part of me. Why can't I be the planner and the ultra organized type? Why can't I come up with clever quips and just the right words to say at the right time?

Romans 9:20-21 Who are you, a mere human being, to argue with God? Should the thing that was created say to the one who created it, “Why have you made me like this?”21 When a potter makes jars out of clay, doesn’t he have a right to use the same lump of clay to make one jar for decoration and another to throw garbage into?

Then there are other times when I think "Why can't they (whoever is on the opposing viewpoint) just see it the way I see it? My way is good, I am easy going and laid back. I'm not demanding or judgmental. Can't we all just get along and agree on things!"

Romans 12:3 Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us. 4 Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, 5 so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.6 In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. 7 If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. 8 If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.

God needs each of our personalities, fitting in with our unique gifts and talents to fill our role in the body of Christ. God needs the artists and dreamers, and the debaters and logical thinkers. He needs the defenders and protectors, and the commanders. God needs people who can lead, and people who will follow. He needs introverts and extroverts. I just need to remember that God created me the way He intended, not on accident. I am not perfect, as the song goes "God's still workin' on me," but I don't need to be someone else. I don't need to have a personality make-over.
I also need to remember that whenever there are other people, there will always be different personalities at play, and God needs them all. We need to encourage and support one another and learn from each other's differences. Where I am weak, someone else will be strong. That is how God designed His body to work. We cannot all be the foot, right hand, heart, or eyes. So do what you do, and be who you are, all for the glory of God!
